The Muskie girls’ hockey team wanted payback.
Rachel Jean and Kate Parsons made sure they got it.
Jean fired the game’s only goal midway through the third period, and Parsons was unbeatable in goal, as Fort High blanked the Dryden Eagles 1-0 yesterday to repeat as champions of the K-Town Christmas Classic in Kenora.
The Muskies were out for revenge after the Eagles had ended their 21-game NorWOSSA winning streak 11 days earlier.
Fort High opened the tourney with a 3-2 win over the St. Thomas Aquinas Saints (Kenora), then blanked the Westwood Collegiate Warriors (Winnipeg) 3-0.
The black-and-gold then advanced to the final with a 6-1 victory over of the host Broncos in the semi-finals.
The Muskies resume NorWOSSA action tomorrow when they host the Sioux Lookout Warriors at 7:15 p.m. at the Ice For Kids Arena in their final pre-Christmas game.
Meanwhile, the Muskie boys mined some gold of their own yesterday—capturing the Victoria Inn tournament in Brandon, Man. after beating the John Taylor Pipers (Winnipeg) 6-4 in the final.
Jarred Taylor, who was named “Player of the Tournament,” had a hat trick in the final.
His linemates—Tyler VanUden (two) and Chase McGuire—accounted for the rest of the scoring.
Jordan Carlson earned the win in goal as Fort High completed a perfect 5-0 run to win its third-straight tournament this season.
After opening with a 6-0 win over the Northlands Parkway Nighthawks (Winkler, Man.) on Thursday, the Muskies blanked the Westwood Warriors 5-0 on Friday to finish in first place in Pool #8.
Fort High then routed the Vincent Massey Trojans (Winnipeg) 6-1 in the quarter-finals on Saturday before downing the Stonewall (Man.) Rams 3-1 in the semi-finals later that day.
The Muskies won’t have much time to celebrate, though, as it was back bus to put their 5-0 NorWOSSA record on the line tonight against the host Red Lake Rams.
Their next home game is an exhibition tilt against the Lafayette Eagles (Red Lake Falls, Mn.) this Friday at 7:15 p.m. at the Ice For Kids Arena.
