Knox United Church’s renewal fundraising committee is pleased with the support it’s receiving in the Aviva Community Fund Challenge.
Currently competing in the semi-round, the church is hoping to garner enough votes to move into the final round, where it will be guaranteed a minimum of $5,000.
As of last night, the local church sat in 12th place.
It needs to at least finish in the top 15 to move on.
“Each time I go back and check what’s happening at our Aviva website, I am inspired by the continued and growing interest that is being shown by our many supporters, near and far, in our project,” said campaign co-chair Bill Gushulak.
“Daily we have acquired new voters, which is a strong indication that they have looked at what we’re trying to achieve and willing to help this community cause,” he added.
The church requires funding in order to make the building more accessible.
It is working to install an elevator and barrier-free washrooms, with a price tag of about $160,000.
Since it is a building that’s well-used by community members, it seems to be receiving support from local residents.

People can vote once a day per e-mail address until Dec. 10.
“It has been an exciting experience,” Gushulak noted.
“And as we look forward to the remaining days of the Aviva Challenge, we encourage everyone to remain focused with us until Dec. 10 when voting closes,” he stressed.
