A full field of candidates is running in the Fort Frances Chamber of Commerce election.
Jennifer Greenhalgh (JGreenhalgh Solutions) and Myles Kuharski (Gillons’ Insurance Brokers Ltd.) are vying for the position of president.
Those running for seats on the board of directors include:
•Jordan Forbes (Saulteaux Consulting & Engineering);
•Travis Glowasky (Studio Gibbous);
•Paul Pirie (Tamarack Legal Solutions);
•Marie Allan (BDO Canada LLP);
•Steve Gushulak (Fort Frances General Supply);
•Paul Noonan (La Place Rendez-Vous Hotel);
•Ben Morelli (From the Grind Up);
•Krista Kellar (Main Street Market);
•Bob Hamilton (Little Beaver Cultural Centre);
•Jackie Lampi-Hughes (Energy Fitness);
•Eric Blondin (TD Canada Trust);
•Rob Georgeson (Investors Group Financial Services);
•Charleen Mallory; and
•Noreen Bourgeois (Confederation College).
Forbes, Pirie, and Allan also have put their names in for the executive positions of first vice-president, second vice-president, and treasurer, respectively.
They still must be elected as directors to assume these positions.
Nominations closed Tuesday and the ballots were sent out electronically—for the first time—on Wednesday, noted Chamber manager Annely Armstrong-Thorstad.
A designate for each paid membership was established and only those persons can vote; one vote per paid membership, she explained.
A couple of paper ballots also were delivered to those designates who were unable to receive one electronically.
“We chose to do it this way so that we can be assured that we do only count one vote by the designate, and the votes are then tracked and tallied electronically in real time—avoiding human error,” Armstrong-Thorstad said.
“This method is much easier and faster for the voter, as well, and that is already reflected in the number of people who have voted already,” she added, noting after only a couple of days, voting already has exceeded last year’s tally.
Voting closes at 5 p.m. on Friday, Dec. 12.
The new board will be sworn in at the January meeting.
