Muskie boys win Morden tourney

The Muskie boys hockey team found gold amid the snow-covered wheatfields of Manitoba this past weekend.
Fort Frances captured the Morden Thunder Boys tournament in Morden, Man., by whitewashing the Crocus Plains Plainsmen (Brandon) 9-0 in the championship final.
Defence was the name of the game for the black-and-gold during the event, as they surrendered only four goals in their three games.
Fort Frances defeated the W.C. Miller Aces (Altona) 5-2 on Friday in their opener and then romped over the host Morden Thunder 7-2.
Goal scorers were not available at press time.
The Muskies (1-0 in NorWOSSA) head to Kenora today to take on the Beaver Brae Broncos in regular-season action.
Their next home game is on Thursday against the St. Thomas Aquinas Saints at the Ice for Kids Arena at 7:15 p.m.
As for the Fort girl pucksters, an exhibition wakeup call translated into an avalanche of offence in their NorWOSSA opener.
The Warroad Warriors blasted the Muskies 8-1 in Warroad on Friday handing the team its first loss after a 10-0 stretch to start the season that saw them outscore their opponents 68-1.
Jessica Coran had the only goal for Fort Frances, who turned their frustrations around last night to crush the Queen Elizabeth Warriors 13-1 in Sioux Lookout.
Annalise Hayes lit up the Warriors in her first regular-season contest, as the Grade 9 forward piled up six goals in the contest, which the Fort led 4-0 after the first and 8-1 after the second.
Fellow rookie Janelle Kaemingh tallied twice, with singles going to Kaily Greengrass, Claire Sandelovich, Coran, Sam McKinnon and Amy Penner.
The Muskies travel to Kenora on Thursday to play the Broncos.
Fort Frances won’t play on home ice again until Dec. 8 against the Dryden Eagles, although they will be just across the river on Dec. 2 when they face the International Falls Broncos in the first of a two-game exhibition series this season.
