Beaudry off to OFSAA

Hailey Beaudry isn’t running on empty after all.
The Muskie cross-country racer was surprised to learn Friday that she had been invited to take part in this Saturday’s OFSAA championships in Waterloo.
Beaudry missed qualifying for OFSAA by one place—and just 2.43 seconds—in the senior girls’ five-km division at the NWOSSAA championships last Wednesday in Thunder Bay.
She wound up sixth overall in a time of 23:34.15, but was fourth among runners not affiliated with the top two teams (the Dryden Eagles and Hammarskjold Vikings).
The top four non-affiliates qualify for OFSAA.
But when Hammarskjold decided Friday not to send its team to Waterloo, that reclassified Vikings’ runner Madison Clayton, who had finished fifth overall, as a non-affiliated runner and thereby would have given her the fourth individual berth.
But Clayton declined her OFSAA invitation, opening the door for Beaudry to compete.
This will be Beaudry’s third-straight OFSAA appearance.
