Why do smoke alarms usually fail to operate?
Because batteries are missing, disconnected, or dead.
The theme of this year’s Fire Prevention Week (Oct. 5-11) is “Smoke Alarms Save Lives: Test Yours Every Month,” and the Fort Frances Fire and Rescue Service will be at Canadian Tire this Saturday to get an early start promoting fire safety.
Firefighters will be there from 10 a.m.-2 p.m., with the public encouraged to stop by to get fire safety information.
They also can enter draws for various prizes, including a child’s bike.
All ages are urged to come by, check out the fire truck and firefighting apparatus, and fire safety displays.
As in past years, there also will be plenty of giveaways for both youths and adults.
Firefighters also will be available to answer any
questions about fire safety—and it’s possible “Sparky” the fire safety dog will be there, too.
As well, firefighters will be stopping at local schools and talking to students in JK-Grade 2 about fire safety next week.
They’ll be at Robert Moore on Tuesday, St. Michael’s on Wednesday, and J.,W. Walker on Thursday.
They usually speak to 500-600 students each year.
