There is one active fire in the Northwest Region.
Red Lake Fire #33, located near Sydney Lake, was “under control” at 0.1 hectares at last report.
This lightning-caused blaze, which was confirmed Saturday, initially received an air attack.
It now will be monitored until it is declared “out.”
Meanwhile, three prescribed burns were ignited Saturday—one in Red Lake District (Confederation Lake) and two in Sioux Lookout District (Moose Creek and Horse Lake).
The Confederation Lake burn is 220 ha in size and located 90 km northeast of Red Lake.
The goals of this burn are silvicultural renewal and the creation of woodland caribou habitat.
The Moose Creek burn is 200 ha in size and located 73 km northeast of Sioux Lookout.
Its goals are ecosystem renewal and hazardous forest fuel reduction.
And the Horse Lake burn is 620 ha in size and located 45 km north of Sioux Lookout.
Its goals are ecosystem renewal, the reduction of hazardous forest fuels, and the creation of woodland caribou habitat.
No problems or concerns are anticipated with either the one wildfire or the three prescribed burns.
The forest fire hazard remains “low” across the region.
The public is reminded that outdoor fire management remains their responsibility.
There is no day burning of brush and grass. As well, campfires must be attended and all outdoor fires must be dead out before leaving the site.
