Emo, La Vallee, Chapple, Morley, and Sioux Narrows/Nestor Falls all will see elections in their respective townships on Oct. 27.
In Emo, former arena manger Jack Siemens is running against incumbent mayor Vince Sheppard.
Meanwhile, nine people are seeking the four seats on council there.
Incumbents Ken Fisher, Gary Judson, Anthony Leek, and Vernon Thompson are seeking re-election while Scott Kinnear, Michael Loney, Michelle Marinaro, Geoff Pearce, and Daniel Young also submitted their names.
In La Vallee, former reeve Ken McKinnon will go up against incumbent Ross Donaldson while eight people are vying for the four seats on council.
Incumbents Dennis Allen, Jim Belluz, Freeda Carmody, and Lucille MacDonald all filed for re-election, with newcomers Irwin Hughes, Brian Kellar, Robin Payeur, and Murray Witherspoon also filing their papers.
In Chapple, there only will be an election for the Ward 4 council seat, where Tom Roen is running against incumbent Ted Zimmerman.
The rest of the current council, including Reeve Peter Van Heyst and Couns. James Gibson, Rilla Race, and Ken Wilson, will be acclaimed.
In Morley, two candidates are vying to become reeve—Coun. George Heyens and newcomer Tyler Nordin—while five are vying for the four council seats.
Coun. Gary Jolicouer is seeking re-election while Anthony Armstrong, Chad Jackson, David Loewen, and Andrew McCormick also submitted their names.
In Rainy River, incumbent Deborah Ewald is being challenged by former councillor Brent Anderson for the mayor’s chair.
Meanwhile, seven are vying for the six council seats there, including incumbents Larry Armstrong, Gordon Armstrong, Susan Carpenter, and Ashley Stamler.
Also in the race are Sherri Materi, former mayor Gordon Prost, and Pat White.
In Dawson, incumbent Eltjo Wiersema will face Linda Armstrong in the mayor’s race.
Vying for the four council seats there are incumbents Aime Desaulniers, Brenda Jodoin, and Archie Wiersema along with Dawn Drennan, Douglas Hartnell, Bill Langner, and Vaughn Murray.
In Sioux Narrows/Nestor Falls, meanwhile, there is a three-way race for mayor as Coun. Wayne Helliar, Chan Motlong, and Coun. Jerry O’Leary are vying for the post.
Couns. Gale Black and Norbert Dufresne will go up against Chris Frenette, Tony Gill, and Lauri Mayer for the two councillor-at-large seats while Susan Hrynczuk and Lou Kabel will vie for the Ward 1 seat.
Philip Hudson will be acclaimed councillor for Ward 2.
In Alberton, the current council of Reeve Mike Hammond and Couns. Peter Spuzak, Mike Ford, Jennifer Johnson, and Wayne Woods all filed for re-election and will be acclaimed.
Mayor Valerie Pizey and councillors Glenn Anderson, Colleen Fadden, Bill Lundgren, and JoAnn Moen similarly were acclaimed in Lake of the Woods Township.
On the education front, David Kircher, Raymond Roy, Stephen Sinclair, and Rudolf Zeitlhofer have filed for the two Fort Frances/ Mine Centre seats on the Rainy River District School Board.
Dianne McCormack, who represents Dawson, Lake of the Woods, Morley, and Rainy River, is seeking re-election.
Donald McBride has filed to run as trustee representing Emo, Chapple, Sioux Narrows, and Nestor Falls while chair Michael Lewis, who represents Atikokan, also has filed to run again.
Meanwhile, Northwest Catholic District School Board chair Anne-Marie Fitzgerald, along with Bob Grynol and Cathy Piotrowski, are running for the two Fort Frances seats on the local separate school board.
