With conditions leaning towards the miserable side, the Muskie golf team got its first competitive swings of the season yesterday in Dryden.
Tyson-Skylar Morrisseau topped the locals with an eighth-place finish in the field of 31.
He carded a round of 89 in the first NorWOSSA event of the season.
“I think he was slightly disappointed,” Muskie golf coach Brian Johnstone said of Morrisseau.
“But it was cold and very windy,” he noted.
“It was not an enjoyable golf day.”
Morrisseau, who wound up eight strokes behind winner Matt Krolyk from the Kenora Broncos (81), garnered 77 points for his results.
His performance led the Muskies to fifth place in the six-team field with a total of 421.
Kenora (356) edged the host Dryden Eagles (357) by one stroke for top spot.
Muskie newcomer Austin Geurts finished 20th overall with a round of 107 while fellow rookie Ian Tookenay was right behind in 21st (108).
Veteran Brandon Jones was 27th (118) while another first-year Muskie, Sheldon Jourdain, came 28th (118).
Rookies Kendyn Faragher and Dylan Ossachuk were unavailable due to hockey tryouts.
Meanwhile, transportation issues, coupled with an absence of permission forms from some team members, prevented the Muskie female trio of Isabel Smith, Elizabeth Allan, and Kristen Smith from attending.
Johnstone hopes to have all hands on deck when the Muskies host the season’s second NorWOSSA tournament next Wednesday at Heron Landing.
