Some people have a song in them just waiting to get out?
Well, wait no more.
The “Friends of the Fort Frances Museum,” along with local musicians Shannon Darby and Kenneth Kellar, will host a youth song-writing workshop on Saturday, May 10.
They’re looking for individuals aged 13 and up to participate, including college and university students home for the summer.
“Ken and I are excited to put on a workshop at the museum,” noted Darby.
“We look forward to making music, having fun and getting creative with the group,” she added. “Anyone interested should attend—and bring a friend!”
Darby has her Bachelor of Music degree in violin performance from Brandon University, and also completed a Master’s in Community Music at the University of Limerick in Ireland.
The workshop will take place from 1-5 p.m. (with a snack break) upstairs at the Fort Frances Museum.
Participants will work together to write music. The process will encourage them to co-operate, collaborate, experiment with creativity, and build individual self-confidence.
They do not have to have any prior musical experience, but those who do are urged to bring along their own instruments so they can be used during the workshop.
There is registration fee of $10, which will be refunded at the end of the workshop.
