Ministry of Natural Resources’ FireRanger crew leader Mark Dillon, from Chapleau, demonstrated a technique called “cold trailing,” where firefighters actually feel inside stumps to check for residual heat after a fire. Dillon was one of the MNR firefighters who battled Fort Frances Fire #128—a 26-hectare blaze in the Preacher Lake area, just west of Burditt Lake (about 30 km north of Emo), that was reported Sept. 7.
