It wasn’t the way he wanted to go out.
But for Chad Canfield, it’s time to go.
Canfield announced today he is stepping down after four seasons as head coach of the Muskie football team following Fort High’s 35-0 loss to the Elmwood Giants in quarter-final action Friday in Winnipeg.
“I need to focus on some other things right now, like work and family,” noted Canfield, who posted a 10-18 regular-season record while going 1-4 in the playoffs.
“I would like to still be involved, maybe go out a couple of days a week to practice to help out,” he added.
“But the head coaching job is so much other stuff than just being there from 3:30-5:30 p.m. for practice.”
The Muskies finished sixth in the Andy Currie Division (‘A’) with a 3-4 record this season, which ended with back-to-back shutout losses on the Giants’ home turf.
Canfield’s replacement has not been decided yet, with no timeline for hiring his successor at this point.
