On Friday around 1:15 p.m., Rainy River District OPP officers responded to the report of a train derailment at the Resolute Forest Product mill property in Fort Frances.
Officers confirmed a single rail car containing hydrogen peroxide tipped over, causing the chemical to leak.
The Fort Frances Fire and Rescue Service also responded, and was utilizing its resources to suppress any vapours and monitor the spill area.
No injuries have been reported.
The OPP set up a perimeter around the affected area of Central Avenue, between Scott Street and Second Street East.
The public is asked to refrain from attending this perimeter until further advised.
The OPP is working with emergency responders and the Town of Fort Frances to monitor and assess the situation.
The Ministry of the Environment has been notified.
The rail company is Minnesota Dakota and Western Railway (MDW), which serves the paper mills in Fort Frances and Internationals Falls, Mn.
