Robert Moore School will host its second-annual spaghetti dinner tomorrow (Oct. 1) to help fund the popular breakfast program that has been running there since 2005.
The program, which is available to all 460 students in the school, sees trays of food delivered to classrooms each morning to ensure every child begins their school day with food in their stomachs.
“We had such a successful event last year in terms of the fundraising aspect,” enthused Toey Bone, president of the Robert Moore School Council, adding the dinner also gave families another reason to visit the school.
“I heard a lot of good feedback,” she remarked.
“And I think it was a good way to bring awareness to the breakfast program.”
They even were able to secure more volunteers for it.
Coupled with the “Art Extravaganza” event this past spring, the program was able to run throughout the school year and began again when classes resumed this fall.
“It’s just been such a success,” Bone stressed.
This year’s dinner will take place from 5:30-7 p.m. in the school gym and all are invited.
Tickets cost $5/plate, which will be sold at the door.
“We want to make sure it is affordable so everyone can attend,” Bone explained, noting each ticket includes spaghetti, salad, bun, drink, and dessert.
The Fort Frances Kiwanis Club will be helping out by serving up the meal while several of the food items were donated by local businesses.
The breakfast program, which can cost upwards of $20,000 annually, is funded solely through grants and fundraising efforts.
They also accept donations and always are looking for people to help prepare the breakfast trays each morning.
“If anyone is interested in donating or helping out, we’d certainly appreciate it,” Bone said.
