Town council last night agreed to assign the name “Huffman Court” to the new cul-de-sac planned within the new subdivision being built on Williams Avenue.
The name was put forth by the town’s Planning and Development executive committee.
In a report from municipal planner Faye Flatt, she wrote that the town is developing the new subdivision with six lots fronting Williams Avenue and 10 on a new cul-de-sac that will be constructed.
While the project often has been referred to as the “Huffman” subdivision, the new road hadn’t been named.
But subdivision plans are required to have roads named, and a name for the cul-de-sac should be assigned soon so the subdivision plan can be prepared and registered.
The Planning and Development executive committee met Sept. 16, and reviewed a newspaper article about F.H. Huffman, along with information on traditional road types.
“The committee felt that as a sufficiently significant member of the community, it is appropriate that Mr. Huffman continue to be recognized and to that end are recommending that the cul-de-sac within the new subdivision be named ‘Huffman Court,’” noted Flatt in her report.
Also last night, council:
•received oral and written submissions re: the 2014 municipal budget;
•heard an update on capital projects from Operations and Facilities manager Doug Brown;
•did not agree to any of the taxi bylaw amendment requests from 539989 Ontario Ltd. (North Air Services);
•received a financial request for advertising in the Northwestern Ontario Sports Hall of Fame and Museum’s 32nd-annual induction dinner souvenir program and directed that no further action be taken;
•received Minutes of Settlement for 115 Sixth St. E. (2013), 1029 Frenette Ave. (2013), 720 Fifth St. W. (2013), 527 Third St. W. (2013), 412 Scott St. (2013), and 525 King’s Highway (2011 and 2012), with the total financial impact being $1,519.03 (consisting of a reduction of municipal revenue of $1,166.44 and education revenue of $352.59); and
•agreed to proclaim Nov. 17-24 as “Restorative Justice Week 2013” in the Town of Fort Frances.
