The Fort Frances Women’s Volleyball League launched its new season last night—somewhat.
Due to the gymnasium at St. Michael’s School being unavailable because of a school function, four of the league’s 12 teams were unable to hit the court.
That quartet included defending league champion Dig This, as well as Scared Hitless, last year’s runner-up, Notorious D.I.G., and the Ball Busters.
For the teams that did get to play at Fort High, Gillons’ Cougars, By the Balls, and Alliance got off to fast starts by recording the maximum six points available in their respective matches.
The Cougars blanked Kiss My Ace and I’d Hit That by identical 3-0 scores while By The Balls also put up a double shutout with 3-0 victories over those same two teams.
Alliance, meanwhile, blanked Kiss My Pass and Bump It Up by 3-0 margins.
SMASH won its opener 3-0 over Bump It Up, but then were swept 3-0 by Kiss My Pass.
Action resumes next Thursday (Sept. 26) at 7 p.m. at Fort High and St. Michael’s.
