One new human-caused fire was reported yesterday in Thunder Bay District.
Thunder Bay Fire #35 is a 0.1-hectare chipper debris pile fire located about 45 km north of the city.
It was classed as “under control” as of this morning.
The forest fire situation has eased across the Northwest Region, with the current number of actives fires now at seven.
These are the only active blazes in the entire province.
They are located in the districts of Fort Frances (two), Sioux Lookout (four), and Thunder Bay (one) and are not posing any problems.
The forest fire hazard is “low” to “moderate” across the south and central sectors of the region, and “high” in the far north.
Provincially, there have been 558 fires in the Northwest and Northeast regions, with a combined area burned of 43,324 ha.
By this time of the season last year, there had been 1,566 fires in the province, charring 151,555 ha.
