Ending stigma aim of walk/run

Staff

In honour of Mental Illness Awareness Week, the local Canadian Mental Health Association will host a 1K and 5K walk/run, entitled “Steps Against Stigma,” on Saturday, Oct. 5.
Mental Illness Awareness Week is designated to public awareness that aims to better inform and educate people about the issues surrounding mental illnesses.
This year, CMHA Fort Frances is focusing on the effects of stigma on those who have mental illness—and is asking for the community’s participation.
The walk/run will start at the Sorting Gap Marina. Late registration will be at 8:30 a.m., with the 1K event starting at 9:30 a.m.
This will be followed by the 5K event at 10 a.m.
These are not timed events.
Door prizes (adult and child) will be drawn for after the two events (you must be a participant and present to win).
The cost to register is $10 per person, which will include a T-shirt for the first 100 who sign up.
Registration forms are available at the local CMHA office (612 Portage Ave.) and Energy Fitness, as well as online at www.cmhaff.ca
Individuals can hand in their forms, along with their $10 fee, at the CMHA office.
