One day before facing each other on the ice, the Fort Frances Lakers and Minnesota Iron Rangers took care of some business off of it.
The Lakers sent forward Tyler Broderson to the Iron Rangers yesterday in exchange for defenceman Riley Daly.
“In Riley, we get an experienced defenceman to bolster our back end,” Lakers’ general manager and head coach Wayne Strachan said in a press release.
“He is a big-body player who has a physical side to him and can play many roles to help our team,” Strachan added.
The 20-year-old from Lorette, Man., listed at 6’0” and 166 pounds, had four goals and eight assists in 50 games last season, along with 78 penalty minutes.
He added two assists in seven playoff games.
Broderson, a 19-year-old native of St. Louis Park, Mn., was signed away from the Soo Eagles of the NAHL back on Jan. 11.
He had nine goals, including three game-winners, and five assists in 18 games with the Lakers last season, along with just four penalty minutes.
In 13 playoff games, Broderson netted four goals and one assist, along with two penalty minutes.
The Lakers host the Iron Rangers tonight in the SIJHL pre-season opener for both teams.
The puck drops at 7:30 p.m. at the Ice For Kids Arena.
