The Fort Frances Community Garden committee is being allowed to keep its existing fence, with the option to build a permanent one down the road once funding becomes available.
This would be done under the guidance of the town’s bylaw department.
Town council gave the nod during its regular meeting Monday night, at which time it also gave the committee permission to construct four three-foot gates and two 10-foot gates to allow easier access for gardeners and machinery to tend the site.
The posts will be set in concrete to ensure safety and minimize maintenance.
The Fort Frances Community Garden committee had asked for permission to erect a permanent fence back in November, but the matter was deferred until the re-zoning of the property was completed.
The last day to appeal the re-zoning was Aug. 14 and no appeals were submitted as of that date.
Also at Monday night’s meeting, council:
•approved a reimbursement up to $600 to the Fort Frances Curling Club for providing additional water and ice at the “Kraft Celebration Tour” festivities here Sunday;
•heard an update on economic development activities for the second quarter of 2013 (they received an invoice from the Rainy River Future Development Corp. for $22,769.47 for services rendered during that period);
•heard an update re: the Rainy River Resources’ gold project north of Barwick;
•referred requests from Doug Derendorf—re: proposed meter rates for new taxi service and council consideration of new taxi service in the Town of Fort Frances—to the Planning and Development executive committee for its recommendation;
•referred a request from 539989 Ontario Ltd. (North Air Services)—re: amendment to the current taxi bylaw—to the Planning and Development executive committee for its recommendation;
•received an invitation to attend the Riverside Foundation for Health Care’s annual dinner, “Cowboys and Lace,” at the Emo Arena on Saturday, Sept. 14 and agreed to purchase a “bronze” table sponsorship at a cost of $500; and
•passed a bylaw to authorize the sale of municipal lands to Tom Veert Contracting Ltd.—Lots 3 and 12 on Plan 48M-357 (industrial park)—for $3,523 per lot.
