The Fort Frances Lakers yesterday re-signed defenceman Cody Wickstrom for the 2013/14 season.
Wickstrom, a 20-year-old from Marquette, Mich., registered 10 assists in 40 games for the Lakers last season.
“Cody came in and played well last season for us,” noted Lakers’ head coach and general manager Wayne Strachan.
“He will be relied upon for a veteran presence on the blueline, which will see him have increased minutes in play, and to play a two-way style to help our team,” Strachan added.
Wickstrom is the fourth player to re-sign with the Lakers from last season’s SIJHL runner-up squad.
Forwards Patrick Sofer, Mason Meyer, and Hunter Leishman all elected to return.
The Lakers also have signed former International Falls Broncos’ forward Lucas Debenedet and former Muskie blueliner Brandon Sinclair in the lead-up to the new season.
As well, they acquired twin forwards Bryce and Lyndon Lipinski from the MJHL’s Portage Terriers in a trade.
