Two hockey players with local roots are getting a chance to once again show off their skills to NHL teams.
Goalie Ryan Faragher and forward Joe Basaraba are taking part in prospect camps over the next two weeks.
After helping the St. Cloud State Huskies advance to the “Frozen Four” during his sophomore season this past winter, Faragher is taking part in the N.Y. Rangers’ prospect camp, which started Monday and wraps up tomorrow.
Faragher, who attended the Pittsburgh Penguins’ prospect camp last year, is one of four goalies taking part.
Former Yale Bulldogs’ netminder Jeff Malcolm and graduating Robert Morris Colonials’ goalie Eric Levine are there as free agents invites.
Meanwhile, the lone Rangers’ draft pick to go between the pipes is Mackenzie Skapski of the Kootenay Ice, who was taken in the sixth round of this past Sunday’s NHL entry draft.
For his part, Basaraba will be taking part in his third-straight Florida Panthers’ prospect camp, which gets underway this coming Monday.
The right-winger, who will be a co-captain on the Minnesota-Duluth Bulldogs in his senior season this fall, was drafted by the Panthers in the third round of the 2010 entry draft.
The Panthers’ camp, which will conclude next Friday, is headlined by this year’s Calder Trophy winner, Jonathan Huberdeau, and Finnish forward Aleksander Barkov, who was taken second overall in this year’s draft.
