Curling club bid makes cut

The Town of Fort Frances is one of 20 communities that are finalists in this year’s Kraft Celebration Tour.
Two bids were submitted from the Fort Frances Curling Club—one sent in by Muskie curler Hailey Beaudry and the other by club members Patrick Briere and Ron Silver.
The latter bid proved to be the one that made it into the finals.
That bid now will go up against one from Dryden in a 24-hour online vote from noon (EDT) on Friday, July 19 until 11:59 a.m. on Saturday, July 20 to determine which of the two communities will be among the 10 grand prize winners.
The winning communities will receive $25,000 for improving a community project or creating a new one, as well as host a live broadcast of TSN’s SportsCentre.
If successful, the curling club will use the money to help offset the outstanding debt from its new geothermal heating system and to ensure the viability of the club going forward.
