Work related to the reconstruction of Second Street East between Mowat Avenue and Central Avenue began today, starting with the setting up of temporary water and sewer lines and traffic signage.
Digging on Second Street East will get underway next Monday (July 8).
This will coincide with the lights being shut off at the intersection of Second Street East and Central Avenue.
As such, traffic coming from the west on Third Street West only will be able to turn south onto Central Avenue, then proceed east on First Street East.
Likewise, traffic coming from the south on Central Avenue only will be allowed to turn west, not go north or east.
Eastbound traffic on Fourth Street West will have to turn onto Cornwall Avenue and then onto Third Street West.
The sanitary sewer on Second Street will be pulled up and replaced, along with the watermain and storm sewer.
Then the road will be reconstructed.
Once this first phase is done, the second phase of work will start, with the same pipe and road replacement work to be done on Mowat Avenue between Second and Third Street East.
The project completion date is Sept. 13.
Makkinga Contracting is the general contractor.
Meanwhile, the stretch of Williams Avenue between Fourth and Fifth Street East will be closed starting next Monday (July 8) as sewer and water pipe replacement work begins in relation to the Huffman subdivision.
Wagner Construction Canada ULC is general contractor on that job.
