After three years as chair of the Fort Frances Canadian Bass Championship, Gord Watson is stepping down.
The search for his replacement has begun, and Watson is hoping that his successor will be found soon so he or she can learn the ropes during this year’s FFCBC.
“I have accepted a new job and it does involve a lot of travelling,” Watson noted, explaining his reason for leaving the committee.
Being chairperson involves helping to plan the FFCBC each July, but Watson mainly was responsible for organizing the meetings.
“Basically, the chairman just runs the meetings and lets everybody else do the decision-making,” he explained.
“Really the committee members are making the decisions,” he stressed. “The chairman doesn’t even have a vote.
“You just make sure everything’s running smoothly.”
The time commitment involves laid-back meetings at La Place Rendez-Vous roughly 12 times a year, as well as being on hand during the tournament.
“In August, after the bass tournament does up all of their financials and a fiscal year summary, we recap the previous year and set out the directors for the next year,” Watson said.
“Then we don’t meet until January,” he added.
They meet once in January, then once a month from March until June, followed by multiple meetings in July.
Anyone interested in the position of chair is welcome to attend the upcoming committee meetings, which are scheduled for July 3, 10, and 17 at 7 p.m.
Previous experience with the FFCBC is not necessary, so anyone who is passionate about the role is invited to come and see how things are run.
