Dear editor:
As director of the Sister Kennedy Centre, it is always a great pleasure to promote positive aging for seniors.
That is the purpose of the centre, which clearly uplifts lives of all seniors regardless of faith, culture, nationality, or heritage.
If you are age 55 or older, I invite you to visit the centre and participate in the wide range of activities we have to offer.
Come and reacquaint yourself with old friends—and make many new ones that will last a lifetime.
Just recently, we had a busload of seniors travel to Kenora for their “Senior Day.” This is turning into a yearly event and is enjoyed by all who attend.
There is no cost for the bus trip, which leaves in the morning and returns in the late afternoon/early evening.
This was followed by a large delegation of seniors from Fort Frances who attended the Senior Games in Kenora the following week. Winners from Fort Frances were Jerry Mosher (gold on the pool tables), Betty Robertson and Mary Beth Tkachuk (gold in table shuffleboard), and Mildred Bedard and Allan T. Bedard (bronze in table shuffleboard).
Everyone had a fantastic time during the Games with our wonderful, friendly hosts in Kenora.
Then on June 19, Fort Frances seniors held a potluck supper at the Sister Kennedy Centre. It was followed by a PowerPoint presentation put on by the local Seniors and Law Enforcement Together (S.A.L.T.) committee.
President Robert Schultz, along with Donna McKelvie and Nell Laur, handled this very professional presentation on elder abuse and tips on how to prevent yourself from being a victim.
Everyone enjoyed the meal and the excellent presentation. S.A.L.T. is becoming a prime force in our community, bringing a highly-needed message to many vulnerable seniors.
We are ever thankful—and grateful—for the S.A.L.T. committee and its dedicated volunteers.
In closing, we invite all seniors over the age of 55 to come in and enjoy our excellent centre (located on Victoria Avenue across from the Fort Frances Clinic).
Once you walk through the door, you will always want to come back.
Yours truly,
Nick Wihnan
Fort Frances, Ont.
