Although the 2013/14 season is still a long way off, the Fort Frances Minor Hockey Association already is taking steps to ensure its house leagues are as strong as they can be.
“We will be focusing a lot of our resources to our single ‘A’ hockey and educating the coaches so that we are getting the most out of helping the development of these players,” FFMHA president Wayne Strachan said.
Those interested in being a head coach in single ‘A’ hockey leagues from IP to Midget are asked to e-mail Strachan at waynestrachan@sympatico.ca by next Friday, (May 24).
That way, the FFMHA can plan well ahead of the start of the new season in terms of who will be coaching what.
“We will be having a coaches’ development weekend in early September that will be mandatory for every coach in either ‘A’ or ‘AA’ to take part in, and learn from the coaches that will be brought in to work with them,” Strachan noted.
“We are also encouraging our ‘AA’ applicants to have their assistants written in stone come interview time at the end of the month,” he added.
In other news, the FFMHA is opening up registration again for Midget-aged players in hopes of having a Midget ‘A’ league up and running for next season.
The league, which folded due to a lack of players this past season, will be open to those born from 1996-98.
