Since it’s been three weeks since their last meeting, town council has a lengthy agenda ahead of it tonight, including three presentations on various matters.
Artist and art instructor Lindsay Hamilton will speak to council about the placement of a second mural at the ’52 Canadians Arena.
The mural was created during a summer camp at Confederation College last year.
Council is expected to permit the erection of the mural at a location agreed upon with Community Services manager Jason Kabel.
Tonight’s meeting also will include a presentation from Geoff Gillon and George Emes of the Rainy River Future Development Corp. regarding its activities for the first quarter of 2013.
They also will present resolutions from the Economic Development Advisory Committee in support of RRFDC activities, including a tourism marketing plan for the 2013 season and approval for the undertaking of a branding exercise.
The meeting also will include a public meeting regarding an application for Zoning By-Law Amendment 8/98-XX 1038 (1040 York Ave.)
The amendment is to permit multi-residential dwellings on the rear portion of the property (which will be added to 237 Eighth St.) and permit a single residential dwelling on the land fronting York Avenue.
G. Bliss is on the agenda to speak on the proposed amendment.
The public portion of the committee of the whole meeting is scheduled to start by 6:20 p.m.
This will be followed by the regular meeting of council at 6:45.
Other business on the agenda includes:
•a break-open ticket licence application from the Riverside Foundation for Health Care at 110 Victoria Ave. from May 31, 2013-May 31, 2014;
•a financial request dated from the Boundary Waters Dragon Boat Club re: the Boundary Waters Dragon Boat Festival;
•a financial request dated from K. Erwin re: support of Special Olympics through the Ontario Law Enforcement Torch Run;
•a financial request from Bruce Caldwell re: the 14th-annual Fly-In, Drive-In BBQ at the Fort Frances Airport on June 9;
•a request from the Fort Frances Traffic Safety Committee re: implementation of a “Kiss ’n Ride” safety program;
•a bylaw to amend the business licensing bylaw to provide for an increase in rates chargeable for taxi cabs within the Town of Fort Frances;
•a report re: performance and operational information on the town’s four 10-kilowatt microFIT solar power generating systems;
•a five-year licence agreement for the installation of NAV Canada Remote Communications Outlet (RCO) on airport property;
•a report re: software to complete an asset management plan;
•the awarding of Tender No. 13-OF-04 (three-year contract for asphalt patching);
•the awarding of RFQ 13-PD-05 (asbestos removal at the Huffman School building);
•requests from the Fort Frances Canadian Bass Championship;
•a Rainy River District School Board RFP re: J.W. Walker before- and after-school program;
•a report re: Fort Frances High School “chem-free” grad prize and rental fee donation requests; and
•a report re: financial request for Rainy River Vet Services Committee.
