The Fort Frances Vipers captured the Manitoba U16 Tier 2 provincial championship in Portage La Prairie yesterday, defeating the Grant Park Pirates of Winnipeg in three sets.
After finishing second in the round-robin, the Vipers beat the Synergy Volleyball Club (Glenella and McCreary) in a three-set quarter-final showdown.
Then they dispatched the Prairie Fire (Portage La Prairie) in two sets in the semi-finals to advance to the title match.
In addition to winning the event, three Vipers earned accolades for their play during the tournament.
Cheyenne Lyons and Sierra Cousineau both were named to the all-star team while Hannah McLeod was named tournament MVP.
