Nicholina Youroukos will be the guest speaker at the Fort Frances Chamber of Commerce’s general membership meeting tomorrow night.
Youroukos, who recently completed her Masters in Environmental Studies in Nature-Based Recreation & Tourism at Lakehead University in Thunder Bay, will be at the meeting, which runs from 6-7:30 p.m. at La Place Rendez-Vous.
Chamber manager Annely Armstrong said Youroukos will speak about tourism and “how small businesses react, or don’t react, to tourism, and how they prepare or don’t prepare.”
“She has been asked to speak about this all over the place—she’s been to Chile,” noted Armstrong.
“She has made recommendations to other Chambers of Commerce at other locations . . . it’s going to be interesting, I think,” she added.
“I’ve heard lots of good things about her.”
Armstrong said Youroukos is staying with an aunt while she is in Fort Frances, explaining the Chamber is striving to ensure that guest speakers and other notable personalities they bring in have “some kind of a local connection.”
These include comedians Don Kelly, who was here for the business expo this past weekend, and Kenny Robinson, who was here for the business awards gala earlier this year.
“We’re trying to showcase some of our local success stories,” Armstrong reasoned.
“And there’s a lot coming from Fort Frances; more than people realize,” she stressed.
Chamber members and non-members are encouraged to attend tomorrow’s meeting, with the cost being $20/meal.
