Shaping up to be bigger and better than ever, the Fort Frances Chamber of Commerce’s Business & Community Expo 2013 is set to go tomorrow and Saturday at the Memorial Sports Centre.
“We are really excited that we have two arenas full, lots of prizes, [and] lots of booths that have a deal you can only get at the expo, or a draw or a giveaway,” enthused Chamber manager Annely Armstrong.
“There is so much stuff going on.”
Armstrong urged everyone, especially families, to come out between 4-8 p.m. tomorrow or 9 a.m.-4 p.m. on Saturday, noting admission is just $3/person while kids 12 and under get in free.
She encouraged people to go from booth to booth at the expo and stay around for a while.
Not only will there be a seating area to give your feet a rest, but get a bite to eat or something to drink at one of the booths offering food and beverages or from the arena cantina.
In addition to 59 exhibitors representing a wide range of businesses, including Sunset Country Ford, which will have a car show in the ’52 Canadians Arena, there will be popular events like the “chem-free” grad cake roulette and “Plinko,” where you’re guaranteed to win a prize.
Comedian Don Kelly will be on hand Saturday from 1:30-3:30 p.m. for an autograph signing.
There will be draws for four door prizes, including three $50 gift certificates and an air nailer.
People also can check out the “What I Love About Borderland” photo contest and vote for their favourite entries.
“There really is something for everybody,” said Armstrong.
Then on Saturday night, there will be an age-of-majority social featuring Kelly (8-9 p.m.).
As well, Distant Legacy and Brittany Hayes will perform from 7-8 p.m. and again after 9 p.m.
Tickets for the social cost $20, which will be available from the Chamber booth during the business expo and at the door.
“It’s really the first social of the year,” noted Armstrong. “They used to have them all the time [but] that’s kind of fallen by the wayside now.
“With the Internet, everybody’s talking but you’re not face-to-face.
“We wanted to bring some of that back again,” she reasoned. “It’s kind of like a kick-off to summer.
“Everybody needs to come out and get together,” Armstrong stressed. “You get that cabin fever thing going over the winter.”
