The process to sell lots at the new Huffman residential subdivision on Williams Avenue is moving ahead, with a lottery draw slated for next Thursday (April 25).
Council has finalized the details of how the town will sell the 16 lots comprising the residential subdivision, with six fronting Williams Avenue and an additional 10 on a proposed cul-de-sac.
Lottery packages for prospective buyers are available at the Civic Centre front desk and the Fort Frances Public Library Technology Centre, as well as from municipal planner Faye Flatt.
They also are on the town’s website at fort-frances.com
Flatt said the package has an application form attached to it, on which the entrant must indicate their preferred lot(s).
The lottery entrant also must submit a cheque for $500.
The deadline for entries is 6:45 p.m. on Thursday, April 25, with the draw to take place at 7 p.m.
The first person drawn will have their pick of the 16 lots, with the process continuing from there.
For those successful in securing a lot, the $500 will be applied to the purchase price.
If someone is drawn and the lot they wanted already is gone, the $500 will be refunded to them.
But if someone is drawn and the lot(s) they listed on their application is/are still available, and they decide to opt out, they forfeit the $500.
Lot prices will range from $51,000 to $83,000 (or $57,000 to $93,000 incl. HST), depending on the size.
“Hopefully, we’ll get enough response that we can move forward,” said Flatt.
“All indications are that there are at least five different lots people are looking at, wanting.
“I guess come April 25, if there aren’t five lots that people have put their names on, council may have to rethink whether it’s a viable project or not,” she added.
While Flatt has been in contact with a number of people who have expressed interest in some of the lots, anyone interested in the lots is urged to obtain an information package and consider putting their name in the lottery.

A public meeting on the proposed subdivision at the former Huffman School site is set for Tuesday, April 23 at 7 p.m. at the Civic Centre.
