Sheila Quesnel, eLearning/Homework Help facilitator for the Northwest Catholic District School Board, will receive the board’s “Recognition of Excellence” at its regular meeting tonight.
She will be honoured for her exemplary commitment and dedication, as well as the excellent work she continues to do for both the staff and students of St. Francis School here.
“As a result of her work, teachers are taking steps to becoming more comfortable with technology and embracing the realities of the 21st-century learner,” principal Kim Anderson and vice-principal Ron Fryer said in a report.
They indicated Quesnel was a great help when one of the students at the school was off sick for a long period of time. And she quickly set up the classroom teacher and the student’s peers to be able to work with him—even if it was from home.
“She really showed us what technology could do to support our students,” Anderson and Fryer said, noting her expertise in the area of technology has really benefited St. Francis School.
Quesnel has trained new teachers on using the Web Elementary Achievement and provided staff with after-school sessions.
In addition, she continued to support two of the teachers with resources provided to them on the Learning Management System.
Quesnel also organized the school’s “eLearning Day.”
“It was a huge job organizing timetables, providing teachers with materials, as well as support in the area of the technology being used,” the report noted.
“She is a highly-organized person who had everything well planned,” it added.
“We saw teachers take huge leaps forward in using the technology.”
Both Anderson and Fryer stressed St. Francis School is very fortunate to have Quesnel working in their building.
Also at tonight’s meeting, which gets underway at 6:30 p.m. at St. Francis, the board will:
•hear a presentation from Quesnel about eLearning and Homework Help;
•hear a presentation from math facilitator Brody Marsonet;
•review the Grants for Student Needs (GSN) funding and regulations;
•look to approve an amendment to the Rainy River District Transportation Services Consortium membership agreement;
•look to approve a revision to by-law 400; and
•be updated with several reports, such as the revised variance report and a health and safety report.
