Costly school

Dear editor:
It seems that back in 1953-54, the local public school board knew it had to build a new school.
The board was offered a piece of property (Huffman School property) for a meagre $1,750, with the remarks, “Property is being transferred for the purpose of a school site” on April 18, 1953.
Then we taxpayers built a new school.
We taxpayers paid another $155,000 to the board on Nov. 30, 2010. Now we taxpayers have to pay $2 million-$3 million more to tear this school down, as well as another $1 million or $2 million for sewer and water on this property.
And yet there are streets we can’t safely drive down.
Then there are those sewer and water lines we’ve been told are a hundred years old and need to be replaced. Along with hundreds of empty lots with sewer and water already available.
Our taxes and fees will have to go up again next year while the mill tax will go down again we’re being told.
When all these new miners move into town, and the birth rate explodes, we will have to build a new school.
Perhaps Armstrong’s airport would be a good location.
