Muskie Taylor Whitehead turned in an impressive performance at the NorWOSSA badminton playoffs yesterday in Kenora, capturing the gold medal in the senior boys’ singles competition.
Whitehead, who only is in Grade 9 at Fort High, went undefeated to earn a berth at the NWOSSAA championships set for April 17 in Dryden.
“He preformed very well,” said Muskie head coach Tracy Rob.
“He had some very challenge matches, especially with two players from Sioux Lookout,” she noted.
“But that allowed him to push himself to play to the best of his abilities.”
The Muskie boys’ doubles team of Chase Badiuk and Cameron Jolicoeur also competed in the NorWOSSA playoffs yesterday but missed out on one of the two NWOSSAA qualifying spots with a fifth-place showing.
“They were quite happy with how they played,” Rob said.
“Both players have seen their level of play improve since they got together as a team a few weeks ago, and they already excited about playing with each other again next year,” she added.
