Although his team came up short in their bid for a WCHA playoff title on Friday, Fort Frances goalie Ryan Faragher and St. Cloud State Huskies hockey team will be battling it out for a spot in this year’s Frozen Four tournament.
The Huskies, who have never been to the Frozen Four but last played in the NCAA tournament back in 2010, are ranked fourth in the Midwest Region and will take on the top-seed Notre Dame Fighting Irish in a semi-final contest on Saturday afternoon in Toledo.
The winner of that game will play either the Miami (Ohio) Redhawks or the Minnesota State Mavericks in the finals on Sunday, where a spot at this year’s Frozen Four tournament in Pittsburgh will be up for grabs.
The 20-year-old Faragher, who is in his sophomore season at St. Cloud State, got the start in Friday’s WCHA semi-final against the Wisconsin Badgers and made 17 saves in a losing effort.
Wisconsin would go on to win the WCHA title over the Colorado College Tigers on Saturday night.

Elsewhere, Fort Frances native Jordan Larson saw his season come to an end last Tuesday night, as the Pembroke Lumber Kings were swept by the Nepean Raiders in the first round of the CCHL playoffs.
The 17-year-old Larson, who was third in team scoring for the Lumber Kings this season with 56 points, had two assists in four post-season games.
