Shame on you

Dear editor:
I have been in attendance at each public meeting for the Sturgeon Creek School Accommodation Review Committee and have been able to see first-hand how the community feels about this amazing school.
Every single piece of public input that has been submitted and presented has been in favour of keeping Sturgeon Creek School open, and has highlighted all of the positive attributes and fantastic features of this very special school.
The public has taken their role seriously and has done a wonderful job. Thank you to all of the letter writers, presenters, and committee members for your hard work and support.
However, the actions of the publicly-elected school board trustees have left me overwhelmingly disappointed. They are the individuals who will be making the final decision regarding the school, yet they have been noticeably absent during this entire process.
The future of our community’s children is in their hands, but they seemingly do not care enough to take time to attend the meetings and see for themselves how the very people who elected them feel.
The mood of the meetings, the emotion of the people, the fear of what’s at stake, and the passion of the presenters and the committee cannot be recaptured in a brief presentation to the board trustees at a school board meeting where the accommodation review findings only are a small blip on the agenda.
Even Chapple’s own trustee (the municipality where Sturgeon Creek School is located) did not take time to be part of the process with her constituents, which is disgraceful.
Shame on you, Rainy River District School Board trustees.
