Dear editor:
During the lockdown at Fort High last Thursday, one particular student displayed enormous courage and leadership.
As the lockdown occurred during the lunch hour, many students were in the school cafeteria, including my own son.
When he and I talked about the incident the following day, he told me how a senior student, Thomas LePine, essentially took control over the chaotic situation and organized the students to a safe place.
He acted calmly and responsibly and, without his presence there, the students may well have been much more upset and frightened than they were.
I contacted the school principal, who also had been made aware of this student’s remarkable actions, and let her know how impressed I was by this young man.
So on behalf of the students and their parents, I want to say a sincere thank you to Thomas for what he did that day.
It will not soon be forgotten.
Sincerely,
Shar Gilbert
