Thanks to a 3-0 shutout over the Minnesota Iron Rangers in Hoyt Lakes on Saturday, the Fort Frances Lakers have moved back into fourth place in the SIJHL standings.
Heading into a game tomorrow night in Dryden, the Lakers (13-10-0-1) are just one point behind the Thunder Bay North Stars for third place and three behind the Ice Dogs for second.
Saturday’s victory saw Tanner Hamilton earn his first career SIJHL shutout as the second-year goalie turned aside all 32 shots that came his way.
Offensively, forwards Mason Meyer, Alex Bruess, and Jordan Christianson each hit the twine to provide the cushion their teammate needed at the other end of the rink.
The victory came on the heels of a 7-2 setback to the league-leading Minnesota Wilderness on Friday night in Cloquet.
Forwards Jake Larson and Jordan Shockley each had three-point nights to help the Wilderness earn their ninth-straight win.
Christianson and Jon Carlson scored in the loss.
After their game tomorrow in Dryden, the Lakers will return to the Ice For Kids Arena this Saturday for a 7:30 p.m. tilt with the Duluth Clydesdales.
The squad also will hold its annual bake sale that day from 4-8 p.m. in the Memorial Sports Centre lobby.
In other news, the Lakers made one transaction prior to Saturday’s CJHL roster cut-down deadline, acquiring defenceman Johnny Dora from the MJHL’s Portage Terriers.
Dora, an 18-year-old from Frederick, Colo., had two assists in 16 games for the Terriers.
