Local hockey legend Ken (“Kenno”) Christiansen has been chosen as the next “Citizen of the Year” in Fort Frances.
Christiansen, who currently is the assistant coach of the Muskie boys’ hockey team, formally will be honoured next Friday (Nov. 30) at the town’s annual appreciation dinner.
“It was quite a surprise. I didn’t expect this, that’s for sure,” Christiansen said yesterday afternoon as he waited to board the bus to Kenora for a Muskie game.
“It’s an honour, don’t get me wrong,” he stressed.
“I just sometimes think there’s maybe other people more deserving.”
Christiansen noted there’s “quite a few good people” who have been honoured as “Citizens of the Year” in past years.
“So to be part of that group is pretty good, eh?” he remarked.
Town council approved the recommendation from the “Citizen of the Year” selection committee at a special meeting yesterday at noon.
A total of six nominations were submitted for “Citizen of the Year” prior to last month’s deadline.
