Dear Mike:
There are two very special people who need to be recognized in our town when thinking of individuals who have been so dedicated to supporting seniors.
Lois and Doug Medhurst have been our auxiliary’s welcome committee for the past four years—and have done an amazing job!
Lois and Doug constantly would check with the Activation staff at Rainycrest to find out when a new resident was coming to make Rainycrest their home. Upon the new resident’s arrival, they visited the new resident, bringing with them a special little gift basket on behalf of the auxiliary.
This basket contained items such as a night light, tissue, comb, pen, and notebook.
Lois and Doug kept supplies of these items up to date and shopped for them personally. And on this visit, Lois and Doug no doubt would endeavour to tell them about activities and goings-on that they might like to take part in, once they get settled in, and just in general make them feel welcome.
They also were in charge of organizing a welcome party for the new residents and their families. They delivered invitations to residents and families a week prior, telling them about the special party for them.
These welcome teas usually are held whenever there has been eight or 10 new residents. I know the families that attend with their loved ones have an enjoyable time as they receive yet another little gift, along with cake, coffee, and special attention.
Whenever there was a helping hand needed, at birthday and Christmas parties and special events, Lois and Doug always were there in their caring, fun-loving, and quiet ways to help make life easier for the special people at Rainycrest.
Lois and Doug, you have very big shoes to fill! All the time and love you have given is so appreciated!
On behalf of the Rainycrest Auxiliary, we thank you so very much!
(Signed),
Margaret Ann Hudson
