The Fort Frances Lakers once again are in second place in the SIJHL standings after a convincing 5-1 victory over the Thunder Bay North Stars here last night.
In the midst of a three-team fight with the North Stars and Dryden Ice Dogs for second behind the league-leading Minnesota Wilderness, the Lakers now boast a 10-6-0-1 record to hold a single-point edge over their rivals.
Having lost their previous two games to the Ice Dogs in lacklustre fashion, the Lakers outshot the North Stars 48-18 while dominating all 60 minutes.
Colton Spicer, Jacob Nolan, and Patrick Sofer led the way on offence with a goal and an assist each.
Merritt Rysavy and Brendan Cawston also scored.
Lakers’ goalie Jameson Shortreed had a chance to earn his first shutout of the season but his bid was spoiled midway through the third period by Wade Garbett.
The Lakers now have a week off until they return to the ice next Friday (Nov. 16), when they’ll host the Minnesota Iron Rangers at 7:30 p.m. at the Ice For Kids Arena.
