Plans are shaping up for Tess and Robert Coish’s “Backyard Haunt” at 1030 Scott St. this Hallowe’en.
But what’s needed now is candy.
Tess Coish said Monday that some candy and chips have been donated already, but individuals or businesses once again are urged to donate store-bought and wrapped candy for the event (no cash, please).
Those wanting to donate—either to support what’s become a community event or in lieu of giving out candy themselves—are welcome to drop by her business, Tess’ Kitchen, any time between now and Oct. 31.
Coish said she and “an assembly line” of neighbours will stuff treat bags this weekend.
Coish and her family once again are appreciative to get helping hands from the Fort Frances Lakers, who not only will aid in the building of the Hallowe’en maze between now and Oct. 31, but also will dress up and give out treats that day.
On Hallowe’en, trick-or-treaters can drop by the “Haunted Backyard” starting at 6 p.m. and going until abut 9 p.m., or until the candy reserves hold out.
Coish said she’s hoping the fact that Hallowe’en falls in the middle of the week this year will not translate into fewer costumed kiddies.
The event, which first started in 2008, has attracted more than 1,000 youngsters each of the last two years.
When asked if the “Haunted Backyard” is too frightening for children under a certain age, Coish smiled and said it’s fine for kids, but it’s their parents who often become scared.
Coish added if the weather takes a turn for the worst come Oct. 31, trick-or-treaters still are urged to stop in at 1030 Scott St. as volunteers will give out candy inside the store there.
