The district did it again.
Times may be tough—and the future definitely uncertain—but that didn’t stop residents, businesses, and service clubs from opening their wallets to bring a digital mammography unit to La Verendrye Hospital here.
Culminating with almost $90,000 being raised during a four-hour radio-a-thon on 93.1 The Border last Tuesday morning, the “Together We Can” fundraising campaign reached its goal of $650,000—a remarkable achievement in just six short months.
Then again, we’ve answered the call before, whether it was raising funds for a CT scanner here, hospital renovations, or construction of the Townshend Theatre, the Ice For Kids Arena, and the Fort Frances Public Library Technology Centre.
We knew the need for these facilities and equipment, and took the onus upon ourselves to deliver them.
The work isn’t done, of course. While the digital mammography unit already is in place and the first appointments set to be taken, support still is needed for fundraising efforts by groups like the La Verendrye, Emo, and Rainy River hospital auxiliaries, for instance, so they can fulfil their combined pledge of $90,000 over the next few years.
Regardless, the fact that $650,000 was raised/pledged is yet another testament to the generosity of our district and the hard-working volunteers needed to co-ordinate such a campaign.
“Together We Can” indeed is now “Together We Did.”
A big thank you to everyone who helped make it happen. Truly a job well-done.
