Mark Saturday, Oct. 20 on your calendar for the Alzheimer Society of Kenora-Rainy River Districts’ “Walk for Memories” fundraiser here in Fort Frances.
Open to everyone, participants are encouraged to collect pledges and then walk, run, bike, in-line skate, skateboard, or ride in their wheelchair or stroller.
“The Alzheimer Society of the Kenora/Rainy River Districts’ walk offers a wonderful afternoon full of fun for families and friends who come out and walk to benefit and support the society,” Lynn Moffatt, executive director of the local Alzheimer Society, said Thursday.
“We are asking participants to bring a photo of their loved one and posted it on the ‘Memory Wall’ before the walk,” she added.
“We are also encouraging as many people as possible to come out and support the cause.”
Prizes will be awarded to the top individuals and teams with the highest pledges.
The walk will start at 1:45 p.m. at the New Beginnings Fellowship on Mill Road, with the four-km route going from the church to the Sorting Gap Marina and back.
Registration is at 1 p.m., with opening ceremonies set for 1:30.
An awards ceremony will follow at 3 p.m.
To join the “Walk,” or for more information about the event, visit www.alzheimerkrr.com or call 1-800-682-0245.
Pledge forms can be picked up locally at Northwoods Gallery & Gifts and the Memorial Sports Centre.
Those who raise $100 or more in pledges will get a free 2012 “Walk for Memories” T-shirt.
There also will be refreshments and goodies.
All proceeds raised will remain in the Rainy River and Kenora districts.
