While transporting a prisoner to the Kenora OPP detachment, a marked OPP cruiser was involved in a collision with a tractor-trailer at the junction of Highway 17A and Highway 658 (Redditt Road) yesterday around 2 a.m.
The 42 year-old female prisoner from Kenora was killed in the collision.
The two officers in the vehicle were taken to Lake of the Woods District Hospital in Kenora for examination and later released.
The driver of the tractor-trailer unit was not injured.
Highway 17A was expected to be closed for a considerable amount of time.
The province’s Special Investigations Unit (SIU) has been notified and has invoked its mandate.
