An important three days for both local hockey players and coaches is set to take place here this weekend as the Fort Frances Minor Hockey Association is set to it’s development weekend starting on Friday.
The weekend’s events will kick off at the Adventure Inn at 6 p.m. with a speak out clinic for all coaches, which be followed up at 8:30 a.m. on Saturday with a coach stream clinic, which will also be held at the Adventure Inn.
“Any new coaches that wish to be involved with the league will have attend both of those events, as their teams will not be registered until the all of the coaches have attended both of those clinics,” FFMHA president Wayne Strachan stressed.
Meanwhile, there will be on-ice activities that will be open to all local players from the Novice to Pee Wee ranks on Saturday at the ’52 Canadians Arena, with a goaltending clinic starting at 9 a.m. and a skills camp taking place following registration at noon.
“The first 60 kids that sign up will be split into two groups of 30 for a pair of on and off ice sessions, and it doesn’t matter if they are in the FFMHA, the FFGWHA or if the play in Emo, they are welcomed to attend,” Strachan noted.
Specialty clinics on skating, puck control, and small area games will be held for coaches as well on Saturday, with a tentative start time of 2 p.m.
On Sunday, a trainers clinic will take place at the Adventure Inn starting at 8:30 a.m. while a checking clinic for Pee Wee players will be held at the ‘52 Canadians Arena at 9 a.m.
“It’s mandatory that a team trainer be present with a team for all on ice events so it’s very important they attend that clinic on Sunday, and we are also stressing to all Pee Wee players to go to the checking clinic,” Strachan added.
