Rash of new forest fires

A new fire was confirmed in Fort Frances District yesterday, the Ministry of Natural Resources reported.
Fort Frances Fire #60—a 0.1-hectare blaze located just south of Kaiashkons Lake—was listed as “being held” as of press time today.
The cause of the fire was not known at this time.
Meanwhile, six new fires were reported in Nipigon District yesterday, ranging from 0.1 to 2.7 ha in size.
Four of the six were confirmed as being started by lightning.
One new fire was reported in Kenora District on Saturday.
The 0.1-ha, lightning-caused blaze currently is listed as “being observed.”
There have been 590 fires to date in the Northwest Region, charring 92,806.8 ha in all.
