A tournament scheduled to take place here this weekend to crown the top men’s and women’s soccer teams in the region has been cancelled.
Event organizers said due to the short time frame from the end of the regular season for leagues in the region, not enough teams were able to commit to the tournament.
But there are plans to hold a regional championship here next year.
This year’s Borderland Soccer League champs—Manitou Forest Products on the men’s side and Boston Pizza for the women—were to represent Fort Frances in the tournament.
Both teams would have gone up against the winners of the men’s and women’s leagues from Kenora, Dryden, and Sioux Lookout.
