Local “strongman” Luke Skaarup showcased his abilities among the best in the country as he came away with a sixth-place showing at the 2012 Canada’s Strongest Man competition over the weekend in Quebec City.
“For me, this was a success,” Skaarup said.
“My goal going into the event was to have a top-five placing,” he noted.
“But placing in sixth place was still a huge success for me, and certainly an improvement on my eighth-place finish the last time I was at Canadians in 2009.”
Competing in eight events over two days, Skaarup’s best finish was a third in the yoke event yesterday, to go along with a pair of fourth-place showings in the truck pull on Saturday and the medley yesterday.
Jean-Francois Caron finished first for the second-straight year.
He also earned a spot in this year’s World’s Strongest Man competition, which will be held Sept. 24-Oct. 1 in L.A.
As for Skaarup, he’ll now prepare for the Dubreuilville Pro competition Sept. 8-9.
